Looking Back on 2014

December 31, 2014 by Medha 19 Comments

Hey everyone!

10866917_595260987241311_723136327_n

It’s been a crazy year.

When I first started this blog, I honestly thought no one would read it. Except maybe my parents, and a couple of my friends.

Whisk & Shout was, at its roots, really just a place for me to put what I was doing creatively with food out into the world. I loved reading other bloggers’ posts and was inspired- and I’m so glad I was.

2014 has been, overall, an exciting year. As a senior in high school, college visits and applications, leadership positions in my dance groups, and “last” recitals, shows, classes, and games at home have dominated my year. But throughout it all, I’ve had such a fun time continuing to develop my cooking &ย baking skills and making new friends through my blog.

I can’t wait to see what 2015 will bring!

Here are my (and your!) top SIXย favorite recipes of 2014:

6. Vegan Almond Berry Tartlets

Vegan Almond Berry Tartlet | Whisk & Shout These almond berry tartlets were so fun and easy to make! I remember getting so excited over the mini pans, and I was just as enthusiastic about this recipe.

5. ‘Almost Raw’ Almond Butter Breakfast Cookies

'Almost Raw' Almond Butter Breakfast Cookies | Whisk & Shout

These breakfast cookies were a totally spontaneous post, but everything came together on the first try and I knew they were meant to be! These almond butter breakfast cookies were modeled after some I tried in a pretty hipster coffee shop in Florida (my first copycat recipe of sorts) and are still the easiest cookies I’ve ever made!

4. 5-Minute, No-Fuss, Vegan Pesto

5-Minue, No-Fuss, Vegan Pesto

This was a very early recipe on my blog, but a favorite. I’ve used it in other recipes, and it’s a great one to bookmark because of its versatility!

3. Vegan Double Dipped Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies

These are dangerous cookies. These are the kinds of cookies that you can eat half of before they even get into the chocolate, and another half before they get to the chopped nuts. These are the cookies my peanut-hating mother liked. Be warned ๐Ÿ™‚

2. My Favorite (Vegan!) Brownies

My Favorite (Vegan!) Brownies | Whisk & Shout

These are the brownies that my friend Claire b e g g e d me to put on the blog! (Shoutout to Claire, if you’re reading). They’re my staple birthday treat/good luck goodie/surprise dessert at dance practice baked good, and I love them. You guys did too!

aaaand drumroll…

1. {Vegan} German Chocolate Cake!

{Vegan} German Chocolate Cake!

By far my most popular recipe, this cake has been made by Pinterest users, followers of the blog, and my friends alike! A cake recipe that I myself have saved for future adaptions, this German Chocolate Cake (with an exclamation mark!) is the most decadent dessert that people won’t be able to believe is vegan.

Other highlights of my year have been having my (iPhone only!) photography featured on foodgawker, getting verified on Pinterest, and having a small write-up on the blog in my school’s paper!

I’m so glad I have the opportunity to interact with the food blogging community… my blog has grown faster and wider than I ever expected, and I’m thrilled to see what 2015 will bring.

Thanks for joining me on this incredible journey and Happy New Year!

xx
