Okay, this is kind of off topic, but I’m giving a shoutout to the Bloglovin’ app.
Like, people at Bloglovin’, I am here to promote you because your app totally went above and beyond to help me keep up with the blogosphere when I was out of town all last week. Oh yeah. By the way, I went to New York last week for my 18th birthday.
My parents have always been really into the ‘see all the sights’ travel experience, which is pretty cool because, well, you see all the sights. But I’m generally tremendously busy, so my kind of vacation ideally involves a lot of eating and chilling out.
So this time, I called the shots. And let me tell you, we ate and we chilled out, but we also saw the sights, alright?
(Okay, we went to the Met for an hour. Shopping counts as ‘sights’, right?)
The itinerary of this trip essentially consisted of shopping, eating, and walking it all off. And a couple cab rides for when we were too full to consider walking anywhere at all. I’ve actually never eaten so much in my life. And did I mention I wasn’t vegan, only vegetarian, on this trip? Yeah.
First stop was Utsav, a few blocks from where we were staying, for dinner the night we arrived. The food was awesome, it was all super fresh and there were some fusion-y twists on the menu that strayed from the classic Indian restaurant fare, but the service was… eh. (read= bad).
The next day, we skipped breakfast and did lunch at the Beyond Sushi in Chelsea Market, which is 100% vegan sushi. I have never had so many not-just-avocado-maki-roll options in my life. It was totally amazing and I wish I lived in the city JUST so I could seamless vegan sushi at 2am (also for maybe a million other reasons).
After lunch, I had a crazy good Nutella + banana + coconut crepe at Bar Suzette. It was enormous and I demolished it in about a minute. I’m not exaggerating.
I went to Levain with my friends later in the day, which was amazing as expected, although I need to go back when I’m actually starving so I can really enjoy the cookie, which I could tell was genius, but was just kinda too full to finish (Don’t worry, I shared!).
Dinner was pizza at Don Antonio’s by our hotel, which was quick and yum. I got the quattro formaggio (the burrata was to die for) because allowing yourself to eat real-pizza-with-cheese after over a year is a big deal, okay.
And then (please don’t judge me) after dinner we got cheesecake (I got a Devil’s Food + cheesecake slice) from Junior’s that I literally just couldn’t make a dent in. My poor tummy couldn’t handle all the deliciousness.
Thursday, we had bagels for breakfast at Lassen & Hennigs in Brooklyn Heights, and lunch at Toloache, where I had cactus salad tacos that were beyond awesome.
We had pastries at Two Little Red Hens because of course (side note: yes that peanut butter & chocolate swirl cupcake is filled with peanut buttery frosting), and I skipped dinner because again, I just couldn’t deal. It was all too much, in the best way possible.
And Friday morning was breakfast at Blue Dog, which was amazing. I forgot how good egg whites were. Especially with brie. I don’t even feel guilty.
So there’s what I ate (is this post just like a super jacked up What I Ate Wednesday?) and it was all damn good. I wish I was back there, but I have discovered that my body can only hold so much cheesecake! (Is this what being adult means? Cheesecake limits? Oh no.)
